Roots:taprooted.
Leaves:Truncate to cordate, about as long as wide.
Inflorescences: Narrow, at least in distal half, often crowded, sometimes with longer branches at base.
Flowers: shades of orange.
Fruit/Carpels: Dehiscent part 1/3 or more of the whole, reticulation faint to distinct and somewhat fine.

Distribution and Habitat
California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. In Arizona S. parvifolia is found in most of the northern part of the state as well as the mountains that follow along the diagonal immediately south of the Mogollon rim. It is found on both igneous and sedimentary substrates.
