DESCRIPTION:
An adult measures two and a half inches across its legs. This is by far the largest spider found in houses. It has four pairs of simple eyes.
DAMAGE:
These wonderful beneficials feed on other bugs including Indian House Crickets. While they are not at all aggressive toward humans, they may bite if threatened.
MANAGEMENT:
- All spiders are predators. They feed on a wide variety of insects and other invertebrates. Take good care of these guys if you find one in your house. They will help to control crickets and other pest problems.
- Do not handle them with bare hands. If you decide to move the spider, place a clear glass or jar on top of the spider, and then slide a piece of paper under the jar lid being careful not to injure the spider's legs. Flip the container over while keeping the paper tight and then transport and release into your garden.
