Plant Description

Origin: Native
General Description: Evergreen. A small but profusely branched, sprawling and bushy shrub with numerous narrow leaves and clusters of yellow flower heads.
Identification notes: A profusely branched, bushy shrub, slender, brittle branches, appressed branchlets that are glandular and often densely hairy with brown hairs, leafy up to the flower heads, leaves narrow; flower heads in clusters and both disc and ray flowers are yellow.

Habitat Description: Rocky slopes and along washes among other shrubs.
Plant Communities: Desert Scrub, Interior Chaparral, Semidesert Grasslands
Elevation: 0 - 5000 feet

Flowers

Color: Bright yellow   Shape: Daisy or dandelion-like in round clusters    Tubular: N   Flowering Period: Feb - Jun
Description: Flower heads have 9 to 14 disc flowers and are 3/4 inch wide. Flower heads are surrounded by leaf-like bracts in 1 to 2 series, bracts are gland-dotted.

Description: Lance-shaped to 1/2 inch wide and 2 inches long with smooth to fine-toothed edges, sessile and glandular.

Fruit

Color: Brown   Type: Achene   Description: Achenes 1/2 inch long. Glandular, narrow and beak-like at the summit. Achenes topped with straw colored bristles.
