Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Perennial
General Desc: Has one to several erect stems.
Identification notes: The leaf blades are strongly cordate at the base which distinguishes this species from other Brickellia species.
Height: 3 feet


Habitat

Habitat Description: Found in oak woodlands and open limestone hillsides. Documented in Yavapai County in the Bradshaw mountains.
Plant Communities: Interior Chaparral, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest, Riparian
Elevation: 4500 - 6500 feet


Flower Characteristics

Color: Yellow with purplish tips     Shape: Daisy or dandelion-like in clusters     Tubular: N     Flowering Period: Jun - Oct
Description: Bract rosettes are pale green or often purplish and cylindric to about 1/3 inch long. There are 10-16 florets per flowerhead. Heads are erect, usually in loose, panicle arrays.

Leaf Color: Green     Leaf Type: Simple     Leaf Shape: Triangular     Leaf Margin: Toothed     Leaf Attachment: Opposite     Leaves Clasp: Y
Hairs: Leaves and stems     Spines: N
Leaf Description: Leaves have very short stems or sometimes clasping. Leaves can be either acute or slightly rounded thus giving either a triangular or oval shape. Three inches long by 1 inch wide. Leaves have a thick appearance.

Fruit Color: Black   
Fruit Type: Achene
Fruit Notes: About 1/8 inch long with white bristles.
