Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native Life Cycle: Biennial or annual Similar Species: Hymenothrix wrightii
General Desc: Bushy erect plant with stems branching out from the base. The white flower heads are in flat-topped clusters at the ends of the stems. Each flower head consists of many tiny, white, 5-petaled flowers.
Identification notes: Stems rather uniformly leafy to the inflorescence, yellow anthers not exerted from the corolla and overall greenish-yellow cast distinguishes this species from H. wrightii.
Height: About 3 feet

Habitat

Habitat Description: Mostly in scrub oak, pine communities and rocky places, often with pinyons and junipers.
Plant Communities: Interior Chaparral, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest, Disturbed Areas
Elevation: 4000 - 8000 feet

Flower Characteristics

Color: Greenish-yellow to white Shape: Daisy or dandelion-like in clusters Tubular: N Flowering Period: Jul - Oct
Description: Branched, flat-topped flower clusters are found at the top of the stems. What looks like the flower is actually a flower head with 10 to 20 5-petaled florets.

Leaf Description: The leaves are dissected into narrow lobes. They are found at the base of the stems and along the stems, becoming sparse toward the top of the plant.

Fruit Notes: Club shaped to 3/16 inch with 10-15 bristle-tipped scales at one end.
