Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Perennial
General Desc: Bushy sub-shrub having many stems; fast growing; short lived (3 to 6 years),
Identification notes: Leaves sessile or obscurely stemmed, filiform or pinnately parted into long filiform lobes; leaves mostly equal in size, usually evenly distributed or concentrated distally; small bracts that resemble a calyx are present; with or without woolly hairs.
Height: To 4 feet


Habitat Description: Sandy or gravelly washes, plains and mesas, dry creek beds and along roads and trails.
Plant Communities: Desert Scrub, Interior Chaparral, Semidesert Grasslands, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest, Disturbed Areas
Elevation: 2500 - 7500 feet

Flower Characteristics

Color: Yellow     Shape: Daisy or dandelion-like in round clusters     Tubular: N     Flowering Period: Jun - Nov
Description: 8 to 13 rays with yellowish-orange disks: woolly side by side bracts, floppy petals in clusters: to 1-1/4 inches wide.

Leaf Description: Branched and bushy, alternate and deeply pinnated, divided into 5 to 9 narrow linear segments, may or may not be hairy, 1 to 4 inches long.

Fruit Notes: Dicotyledon fruits, each 1/8 inch long, ribbed and covered with short white hairs.
