Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Perennial
General Desc: Perennial with slender rhizomes, herbage covered with soft, hairs closely pressed against herbage, stems usually several, erect to somewhat trailing; leaves opposite and crowded on stems, oval; flowers pink to nearly white, purplish markings.
Identification notes: Stems to 10 inches, usually several, spreading hairs, sometimes glandular; leaves lance-triangular, hairy both surfaces, margins scalloped, elongated flower clusters in axils of reduced upper leaves, flowers pink to white with purplish markings.
Height: To 10 inches


Habitat

Habitat Description: Pine forests, slopes, roadsides.
Plant Communities: Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest, Disturbed Areas
Elevation: 5000 - 7500 feet


Flower Characteristics

Color: Pink to white, purplish markings     Shape: Irregular in elongated clusters     Tubular: Y     Flowering Period: Apr - Jul
Description: Solitary in the axils of slightly reduced upper leaves; stems short, <1/6 inch long; sepals <1/8 inch long, bearing a raised appendage near the upper lip; flowers to 1 inch long, upper lip arched and hood-like; stamens 4.
