Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Annual   Similar Species: Eucrypta micrantha
General Desc: Erect to openly spreading weak stemmed annual. Leaves oblong, divided into 7 to 9 lobes, each lobe is shallowly divided, fern-like; flowers in loose clusters of 4 to 15 white or bluish flowers.
Identification notes: Delicate diffusely branched annual forb, strong scented, glandular foliage; leaves opposite with narrowly winged stems, divided twice; seeds in 2 forms; flowers not glandular, mature sepals do not enclose the capsule.
Height: 6 inches to 3 feet


Habitat

Habitat Description: Beneath trees, in canyons, on slopes and disturbed areas.
Plant Communities: Desert Scrub, Disturbed Areas
Elevation: Below 3200 feet


Flower Characteristics

Color: White or bluish     Shape: Bell-shaped in round clusters     Tubular: N     Flowering Period: Feb - Apr
Description: Loose clusters of 4 to 15 stemmed flowers; petals exceed the sepals, 5 petals are up to 1/4 inch long.

Leaf Description: Leaves oblong, divided into 7 to 9 lobes, each lobe is shallowly divided (bipinnatifid), fern-like, upper leaves smaller, with less lobes and clasping.


Fruit and Seed Characteristics

Fruit Type: Capsule
Fruit Notes: Less than 1/4 inch in diameter, fruit stems curved in fruit.
Seed Notes: Seeds 6 to 8, dark brown, some elliptic or round, disc-like, and smooth, while others oblong-ovoid and wrinkled.
