36 HOUR CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION COURSE

Understanding Youth Development: Keys For Successful Programming offers youth development professionals a unique opportunity to participate in a 9-month Learning Community. Participants meet for 4 hours once a month for nine months. This ongoing Learning Community provides participants with the opportunity to learn new concepts arising out of the most current research and information on youth development and allows them to adapt these concepts for use in their own programs to promote the positive development of all young people who participate in their programs.

Who Should Attend? :
Youth development professionals who work with or on behalf of young people. This includes youth workers in after-school programs, traditional youth organizations (e.g. YMCA, 4-H Youth Development, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts), community-based programs for young people (community centers, faith-based programs), as well as coaches, juvenile probation, teachers and others who work with young people between the ages of 10-20. Participants must register in advance to attend. See the registration form included in this packet for more details.

What Will Be Covered? :
The curriculum will cover nine key areas, including building supportive youth/adult relationships, adolescent brain development, and the implications involved in developing meaningful programs for youth. This program also includes a program assessment tool that can be used by program participants and program staff to better understand their individual work and the overall work of the program. When Does It Begin? :
Sessions will begin throughout Arizona in October 2009 and conclude in May 2010. Sessions are being offered in Northern, Central and Southern Arizona. See the locations and dates to help you determine which cohort to select for your schedule and location. or contact us below.

What Can I Expect? :
This exciting learning opportunity includes access to online resources through the University of Arizona including research articles, online forums, chat and more.  See the Curriculum Sessions descriptions for more detailed information about the course.                 

How Much Will It Cost? :
The total cost of the program is $275.00 per participant. We apologize, at this time payment is by check only. Credit cards are not accepted. No refunds available after the registration deadline. Include an additional $25.00 in your registration if you are requesting Continuing Education Units (CEUs) . The recommended text for the program, Community Programs to Promote Youth Development (Eccles, 2002), is available at Amazon.com.

Are Continuing Education Units (CEUs) available? :
Continuing Education Units, or CEUs, have been approved for this course through the University of Arizona Outreach College. The number of units approved is 3.6 CEUs. To apply for the CEUs, please fill out the participant form and submit the $25 participant form fee to the University of Arizona Outreach College. The cost of the application for CEUs is not included in the total cost of the program, and obtaining CEUs is at the option of the program participants.
