The Department of Entomology Science Communications Endowment enables us to create opportunities to share our expertise with the public and to train skilled science communicators for the future.

Insect Discovery Outreach Program – A University of Arizona outreach program that reaches 3,500 elementary school students annually. The program sparks students’ scientific curiosity through hands-on activities using live and preserved insects.

Arizona Insect Festival – A unique festival on the University of Arizona campus that promotes science literacy and raises awareness about the importance of insects, e.g., as pollinators, natural agents of pest control, disease carriers, & decomposers. 175 faculty, staff, post-doctoral fellows, and students team with 75 community members to volunteer for this annual event that reaches 6,000 visitors.

University of Arizona Insect Collection – The UAIC maintains approximately 2.0 million insect specimens and is the most comprehensive in the world for the Sonoran Desert Region. Many holdings are encountered in agricultural or urban environments, of which some are actual or potential pests or vectors of disease.
