Professional Achievement 2005 - Sue Alexander Greninger

Dr. Sue Greninger earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education from the U of A in 1965, receiving the Merrill P. Freeman Medal and Pillsbury Award her senior year. Following a year at Pillsbury, she enrolled at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, where she received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Family Consumption Economics in the Department of Home Economics. She taught at San Jose State University and was Chief of Planning and Evaluation at the Orange County Manpower Commission in Santa Ana, CA before joining the Department of Human Ecology faculty at the University of Texas at Austin in 1978.ÊÊÊÊ At UT, Dr. Greninger has taught large (100-170 students) lecture sections of Personal and Family Finance and other courses, including Socioeconomic Problems of Families, Consumers and the Markets, and Financial Fitness for Students.

Since 1994 she has also been a Certified Financial Planner. She has published findings from a major Delphi study of certified financial planners and educators in the Financial Services Review on (1) financial benchmarks for assessing well-being with regard to liquidity savings, investments, debt, housing costs, and taxes and (2) recommendations regarding retirement planning. She is presently focusing her research on interventions that encourage increased retirement savings. Dr. Greninger currently is a board member of the Academy of Financial Services and Secretary of the General Faculty and Faculty Council at UT Austin. Each year she volunteers as a Faculty Fellow at a UT living residence, serving as a mentor to students by providing informal programs on taxes, budgeting, credit, and other financial topics. She has been married to Lars Greninger since 1968 and has one son, Alex, a MD/PhD student at the University of California in San Francisco.
