Professional Achievement 2003 - Caryl Cox Hodges

Since completing her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Home Economics Education in 1969, Caryl has earned an M.A. in Curriculum with a focus in Diversity and a doctorate in International and Multicultural Education. Dr. Hodges is currently the Associate Dean in the University Of San Francisco School Of Education with specific oversight of the Teacher Education Program. In addition to teaching credential and Masters level courses in the Teacher Education program, Dr. Hodges also taught Masters and Doctoral courses in the USF International and Multicultural Education Department. She was one of 10 USF faculty members to travel to Xiamen, China during 2002 to teach in the first USF Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language in collaboration with Xiamen Education College.

While in the Teacher Education Department, Dr. Hodges developed, directed and taught in the USF Teacher Education Regional Campus Program which offers credentials and M.A.s at six sites, four regional campus locations and two programs in collaboration with Catholic School teachers and Environmental Educators with Yosemite National Institute. Dr. Hodge’s research interests are in the areas of curriculum and instruction in math, science and the humanities, teacher induction and environmental and multicultural education. In addition, she has worked in educational software development including Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? and writing the Teacher Guide for Broderbund Print Shop PressWriter. She also wrote Teacher Guides and Parent Books for several Living Books. Dr. Hodges is involved with a wide range of organizations including the Board of Directors of Independent California Colleges. She has worked for 20 years as a 4H leader at the local, regional and state level. She is a founding member of the Marin Interfaith youth Outreach which has operated a Teen Center for the past 10 years.
