Professional Achievement 2005 - Janet Lang

Janet Lang earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. In 1972 Janet received a Master of Science degree in Child Development and Family Relations from the University of Arizona. Dr. James Hine reports that she was an excellent student. Janet taught at Iowa State University in the area of Child Development and Preschool. In 1974 Janet returned to the University of Arizona where she taught Child Development and directed the Laboratory Preschool. During her tenure at the University of Arizona, as well as at Iowa State University, Janet inspired numerous students to become the best they could be. She mentored many of them personally. Janet completed undergraduate and graduate work in business administration and worked in economic development for the state of Arizona. She also worked in the area of real estate investment sales.

Through her work, Janet contributed significantly to economic development of the communities. Janet and her husband, Barry, live in Tucson and in Los Angeles. She serves on the board of Governors and Board of Selectors for the Jefferson Awards for Public Service. This organization encourages community service and public service in communities throughout the country. She is a member of the board of the UA Friends of the Arthritis Center. Janet is also involved with Campaign Cornerstones, particularly working with a group of alumni who want to dedicate the Family Studies and Human Development Graduate Center in honor of Dr. James Hine. For her many contributions that she has made to the field of Child Development as well as economic development and her dedication to the University of Arizona, Janet is most deserving of the professional achievement award.
