Robert joined the Norton School in 2005. He played a key role in moving the Norton School forward during a dynamic time of name changes, program additions, and a major capital campaign. He was a valued member of “Team Norton” in all aspects of design, construction, and fundraising for what would come to be McClelland Park, the current home of the Norton School.
Fast forward to 2019 and Robert is still playing a key role in moving the Norton School forward during dynamic and changing times. He has twice been awarded the CALS Outstanding Staff Award, along with the 2011 Carol Knowles Award for Excellence in Development and Alumni Relations. Robert is one of the members of the Norton School who works with all academic programs, Institutes, Centers, and Cooperative Extension. He is able to bridge divides, form connections, and plays an instrumental role in integrating technology in every area. In addition to his work in the Norton School, Robert has also been Chair of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Classified Staff Council since 2016, leading the College-wide effort to represent Staff in CALS shared Governance.
Roberts’s contributions to the School have been many – from positioning the Norton School as a leader in Information Technology in CALS, to his work as Building Manager of McClelland Park, leading the effort to provide a safe, secure, and productive work environment, while working to maintain the beautiful facility, to being the on-site historian through the changes in leadership both at the highest levels of the Norton School along with its Institutes and Centers.
2019 marks Robert’s 25th year working for the University of Arizona and it is through both his institutional knowledge and his desire to learn and implement new ideas, that his contributions are valuable to the Norton School, CALS, and the University. Through many changes in leadership, Robert has made a difference at the School, exemplified the mission of the College, and positively impacted workforce, alumni, and students. He has been a wonderful asset to our Alumni Council in establishing and updating our website along with providing technical needs for our meetings and events. Robert’s skills, knowledge, dedication, and willingness to help others are truly appreciated.
