Graduating in 2012 with a BS in Retailing and Consumer Science, David Shapiro combined the business emphasis of the RCSC major with the fashion emphasis he developed through several venues including an internship his junior year and president of TREND, a business club catering to the fashion industry.
David started his career with Macy’s at their corporate offices in New York City where he went through their executive development program. His quest for knowledge led him to take night classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology to learn the history of men's fashion, grasp what image consulting was and then his favorite, men's styling. This led to a stylist position with Trunk Club in Chicago. In a short seven months, David moved back to NYC to open up the NY Clubhouse and office. He became a Sales Manager and then Sales Director, managing a team of 14 stylists, always utilizing the motto “do not settle for anything less than 100%.” Additionally, David introduced the Trunk Club Internship Program to RCSC students, which led to several interns being hired upon graduation.
Wanting to challenge himself, David wanted to learn what it was like to work in a start-up environment and gain experience in an aspect of the industry he had never experienced. Most recently, he began work for a brand called Faherty and now manages the Northeast territory in whole distribution while also supporting and helping with key accounts such as Nordstrom, Stitchfix, Trunk Club and Neiman Marcus.
David states, “After leaving RCSC 214, my life was forever changed. I couldn't get enough. I honestly spent most of my time at the Lundgren Center. This is where I developed my work ethic. This is where I was taught to always ask questions. This is where I was encouraged to dream big, and then a little bigger. By the time I graduated from the U of A, I had: improved my GPA from 2.6 pre-RCSC major to over a 3.1; help found and was president of TREND; designed and developed a product that sold, and then sold out in the main university bookstore; traveled to The Big Show twice (and got an internship out of it); made lifelong friends; developed amazing relationships with industry professionals and faculty and much more.” David is proud to be a Wildcat, but even more proud to have graduated from the Terry J. Lundgren Center. He wishes to thank everyone that helped him along the way.
